Chain link fence quality in North America is defined by the Chain Link Fence Manufacturers Institute (CLFMI) Product Manual and the ASTM standards it references. The manual is the specification architects, contractors and government agencies write to — and quoting "chain link fence" without these designations is what invites mismatches.

What a clean specification states
- The fabric standard and coating weight (e.g. A392, class of zinc)
- The wire gauge and mesh size
- The framework standard (e.g. F1083 pipe)
State those three and the delivered fence matches what was approved — no surprises when the container is opened.
